Lakeridge Health and CAMH Partner to Improve Mental Health in Durham
Lakeridge Health and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) have formed a partnership aimed at improving mental health services in Durham Region. This collaboration seeks to leverage both clinical and educational resources to establish a model that emphasizes accessibility and quality in mental health care.
The initiative complements Lakeridge Health's "Together, Best Mental Health" strategy and CAMH's "Connected CAMH" plan. Both strategies focus on addressing the high local demand for mental health services, evident in the frequency of related hospital visits and the broader impacts on the community, such as homelessness rates.
Cynthia Davis, President and CEO of Lakeridge Health, stated that the partnership emphasizes a collaborative, patient-focused approach. Sarah Downey, President and CEO of CAMH, noted the significance of building capacity to meet mental health needs. Dr. Kevin Chopra, Chief of Psychiatry at Lakeridge Health, highlighted their aim for integrated and compassionate care in the region.
Durham Region faces a notable demand for mental health services, driven by various local challenges. By joining forces, Lakeridge Health and CAMH intend to address these issues comprehensively.
