Impact of R.I.D.E. Program on Firearm Seizures and Road Safety

The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) has reported the seizure of two firearms during separate traffic stops this week. One of the firearms was discovered during a R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) check conducted by the Summer R.I.D.E. program.

Details of the incidents include:

  • A 22-year-old male from Brampton and a 30-year-old male with no fixed address are facing multiple charges related to the firearm seizures.
  • Both individuals were reportedly in violation of court-mandated bail conditions from prior incidents.

Since July 1, 2024, DRPS front-line officers have seized a total of six firearms, with four of these being located during proactive traffic stops. As a result of these seizures, seven individuals are facing charges, with five being in violation of previous bail conditions.

The upcoming long weekend is anticipated to be busy, and the R.I.D.E. team will be actively monitoring road safety. Residents are encouraged to report any suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1.
