Human Trafficking Awareness Day Highlights 2024 DRPS Investigations

Observing Human Trafficking Awareness Day

February 22, 2025, marks Human Trafficking Awareness Day, highlighting ongoing concerns and efforts in addressing human trafficking. According to the Durham Region Police Service (DRPS), their Human Trafficking Unit dealt with 249 incidents related to human trafficking in the past year, 2024.

Out of these cases, DRPS provided assistance to 211 individuals, among whom 87 were minors. This assistance focuses on those impacted by or at risk of involvement in trafficking activities.

The investigations by DRPS led to 111 charges and the identification of 73 individuals as accused or people of interest. This data represents the scope of work being conducted in the Durham region as part of ongoing initiatives against human trafficking.
