HMCS Montréal Returns from Indo-Pacific Deployment

His Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Montréal has returned to its home port in Halifax, Nova Scotia, after a six-month deployment in the Indo-Pacific region as part of Operation HORIZON. This operation is part of Canada's strategy to maintain a presence in the Indo-Pacific to support peace and stability. HMCS Montréal was the first of three Royal Canadian Navy warships deployed in 2024 under this operation.

During the deployment, the ship traveled through various regions including the North Atlantic, the Mediterranean, and the Indo-Pacific. The crew participated in military training exercises with allies and partners, demonstrating Canada's operational capabilities and commitment to international cooperation.

Rear-Admiral Josée Kurtz, Commander Maritime Forces Atlantic, highlighted the ship's participation in three operations and eight exercises with nine different navies over a 40,000 nautical mile voyage. Commander Travis Bain, the Commanding Officer of HMCS Montréal, praised the crew's performance and noted the importance of support from military families.

Operation HORIZON replaced the Indo-Pacific portion of Operation PROJECTION in 2023, aligning with Canada's Indo-Pacific Strategy. The HMCS Montréal, a Halifax-class Canadian Patrol Frigate, is crewed by approximately 240 members, including Royal Canadian Navy sailors and Royal Canadian Air Force aviators.
