Harwood Avenue Pumping Station to Undergo Upgrades
The Harwood Avenue Water Pumping Station, located at the northeast quadrant of Harwood Avenue and Rossland Road in Ajax, is set for upgrades. The station, operational since 1984, has undergone several upgrades over the years. The facility is designed to transfer water from Whitby to Pickering/Ajax to meet water demand beyond the capacity of the Ajax Water Supply Plant.
The planned upgrades aim to:
- Ensure the security of service for the Pickering/Ajax and Whitby/Oshawa/Courtice water systems.
- Increase the rate of water transfer between the two systems.
- Provide adequate support between the systems during maintenance, expansion, or emergency work at the Ajax, Whitby, or Oshawa Water Supply Plants.
The project schedule is as follows:
- Preliminary Design: 2024
- Detailed Design: 2025
- Tender and Construction: 2025-2027
