Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for Ontario Line Pape Station

The Ontario government has commenced construction at Pape Station, marking the start of a new interchange station connecting the Ontario Line with the TTC’s Line 2 (Bloor-Danforth). The Ontario Line aims to improve transit throughout the Greater Toronto Area by reducing road and transit network congestion.

Construction at Pape Station involves building foundations for excavations that will connect the two subway lines. The new station is expected to serve tens of thousands of commuters daily, facilitating over 9,000 transfers during the morning rush hour. This development is projected to reduce crowding on Line 1 (Yonge-University) by 15% and Line 2 by over 20%.

Once completed, the 15.6-kilometre Ontario Line will feature 15 stations, running from Exhibition Place through downtown Toronto and connecting to the Eglinton Crosstown LRT. The line will provide more than 40 connections to other transit services, bringing 227,500 more people within walking distance of transit and reducing daily car trips by at least 28,000.
