GRCA Confirms Ganaraska Forest Trails Will Remain Open
The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority (GRCA) announced that it is not closing trails to any existing user groups in the Ganaraska Forest. The GRCA is addressing misinformation circulating online and reaffirmed its commitment to providing multi-use recreational trails for both motorized and non-motorized activities.
The GRCA is implementing recommendations from the Ganaraska Forest Management Plan, adopted by the Board of Directors in 2017. The authority is also working on access agreements with landowners and municipalities for trails leading into the Ganaraska Forest to ensure they can legally continue.
A Conservation Lands Strategy must be completed by December 31, 2024, as required by provincial legislation. Public consultations for this strategy are ongoing, with the first open houses scheduled for February 27 and February 28, 2024. The GRCA encourages public participation in these consultations to inform decision-making in the Ganaraska Forest.
