Government Prepares for Potential Canada Post Labour Disruption
The Government of Canada has announced measures to ensure the continuation of benefits and services in the event of a Canada Post labour disruption. Canadians are encouraged to set up a My Service Canada Account and sign up for direct deposit to avoid potential delays in receiving benefits. Direct deposit is already used by over 96% of clients for various programs including Employment Insurance, Canada Pension Plan, and Old Age Security.
In case of a labour disruption, Canada Post has agreed to deliver cheques for socio-economic programs once a month. These programs include the Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security, and the Canada Child Benefit. Service Canada has prepared to support those who rely on mail by ensuring early delivery of November cheques and providing alternative methods for accessing services.
Clients of the Canadian Dental Care Plan can access determination letters online, and those needing passports can still pick them up at designated offices. Social Insurance Number applications can be submitted online or in person. Employment Insurance clients are advised to use online services for submitting necessary documents.
Service Canada staff are equipped with updated procedures to assist clients during any postal disruptions, ensuring continued access to necessary services.
