Government Plans $250 Rebate for Working Canadians
The Government of Canada has announced plans to introduce a new financial rebate for working Canadians. The proposed legislation, expected to be introduced in Parliament, aims to provide a $250 tax-free rebate to approximately 18.7 million Canadians by early spring 2025. This initiative is part of the government's efforts to support Canadians in managing their expenses.
Eligibility for the rebate includes Canadians who worked in 2023 and earned up to $150,000 in individual net income. Additional requirements include having filed a 2023 tax return by December 31, 2024, and either claimed tax credits for Canada Pension Plan or Quebec Pension Plan contributions, Employment Insurance premiums, or reported income from these benefits. Eligible recipients must also be residents of Canada on March 31, 2025, and not be incarcerated or deceased by April 1, 2025.
