Five Arrested for Copper Theft in Bowmanville

Five males were arrested for stealing copper wire from a business in Bowmanville. On August 15, 2024, at around 2:40 a.m., East Division police responded to a theft in progress at a business near Lake Road and East Shore Drive. The suspects were seen loading copper wire into a U-Haul van, which fled before police arrived. The van was later stopped on Highway 401, where police found several hundred pounds of copper wire. The suspects were arrested without incident.

The individuals charged are:

  • Richard Kiss, 20, from Aurora: Theft Over $5000, Possess Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Mischief Over $5000, Break-and-Enter, Fail to Comply with Undertaking.
  • Jozsef Babos, 37, from Ajax: Theft Over $5000, Possess Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Mischief Over $5000, Break-and-Enter.
  • Norbert Kis, 37, from Hamilton: Theft Over $5000, Possess Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Mischief Over $5000, Possess Break-In Instruments, Break-and-Enter.
  • Krisztian Kiss, 23, from Aurora: Theft Under $5000.
  • Csaba Lakatos, 27, from Ajax: Theft Over $5000, Possess Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Mischief Over $5000, Break-and-Enter.

All suspects were released on an Undertaking.
