Federal Government Invests $2.3 Million in Durham Region Health and Wellness Services

The federal government has announced an investment of over $2.3 million in Durham Region through the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program. The funding will be used to transform Community Care Durham’s Whitby location into the Community Health and Wellness Centre. This facility aims to support access to health and wellness services delivered by integrated care teams.

The enhanced centre will offer adult day services, food security programs, a new community kitchen, supports for caregivers and those with mental health needs, and nursing services. Planned improvements include upgrading the flooring for better accessibility, replacing lighting, enhancing acoustics, installing a living wall, and adding new windows to increase natural light.

Community Care Durham focuses on addressing the needs of seniors, food security, mental health, social isolation, and caregiver burnout. The project is expected to increase program capacity and help more clients safely and independently age at home.
