FedDev Ontario Invests in Durham Region Tourism Projects

The Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) has announced an investment of over $600,000 through the Tourism Growth Program (TGP) for four organizations in the Durham Region. The funding aims to draw new visitors to the region through expanded offerings. This is part of a total investment of over $1.1 million for nine projects in Durham Region and Eastern Ontario.

The recipients and their projects include:

  • Arbru Solar Brewery: Installation of sustainable energy systems and enhancement of amenities in Mallorytown. Funding: $115,000.
  • Capitol Theatre: Enhancement of venue accessibility and outreach program at the Port Hope theatre. Funding: $225,000.
  • Central Counties Tourism: Launch of a mobile application to increase visitors by showcasing products and experiences through interactive augmented reality (AR) tours and guides. Funding: $132,695.
  • Kawartha Lakes Museum & Archives: Creation of seasonal and holiday-themed tourism events. Funding: $90,000.
  • Kick and Push Brewing Company Ltd.: Enhancement of outdoor spaces and increase of visitor capacity at the brewery in Sharbot Lake. Funding: $76,625.
  • Municipality of Hastings Highlands: Enhancement and growth of seasonal events and markets in the rural area. Funding: $75,000.
  • Springtide Music Festival: Support and enhancement of the annual Springtide Music Festival in Uxbridge. Funding: $118,193.
  • Theatre on the Ridge: Development of experiential packages for the 2024 summer theatre festival. Funding: $150,000.
  • Town of Whitby: Revitalization of the waterfront area, including new space for outdoor water sports, recreation, placemaking areas, a rest stop for cyclists, public art, and a new visitor information hub with a hop-on-hop-off food and lights tour. Funding: $200,000.
