Environment Days Scheduled for Unwanted Item Drop-Off

The Regional Municipality of Durham is organizing Environment Days for residents to drop off unwanted items for reuse, recycling, and safe disposal. The events will take place on the following dates:

  • Saturday, September 21 from 8 a.m. to noon at Lakeview Park (parking lot), Kluane Avenue, Oshawa.
  • Saturday, October 5 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Municipal Boat Launch (parking lot), 2 Old Rail Lane, Port Perry.

Residents are encouraged to donate items in good condition, including clean clothing, textiles, shoes, bedding, and small household items. Items that charities refuse must be removed by residents and can be disposed of at regional waste management facilities, where standard fees may apply.

Electronic waste can also be recycled at these events. Residents should erase personal information from devices such as cell phones, computers, and televisions before disposal.

Additionally, household hazardous waste (HHW) items can be brought to the event. Examples of HHW include antifreeze, batteries, motor oil, and fluorescent light bulbs. Commercial or industrial waste is not permitted.

Residents are also encouraged by the Region to bring a non-perishable food item for donation to a local food bank, ensuring that items are not damaged or expired.
