Durham Region's Investment in Non-Profit Organizations

The Region of Durham is investing nearly $500,000 in non-profit organizations aimed at preventing or reducing poverty among residents. This funding is provided through the Thriving Communities Fund, which supports initiatives addressing food security, mental health, and addictions, as well as meeting the needs of vulnerable populations, including seniors and children. Additionally, the fund aims to enhance local employment opportunities and support capacity building within the non-profit sector, such as developing strategic plans and fundraising strategies for long-term sustainability. Organizations receiving funding include Blue Door, Community Development Council Durham, Feed the Need in Durham, Durham Community Action Group, Back Door Mission for the Relief of Poverty, AIDS Committee of Durham Region, Bowmanville Older Adults Association, Girls Inc. Durham, Brock Community Food Bank, Christian Faith Outreach Centre, Redemption House of Recovery, and Durham Workforce Authority.
