Durham Region Transit Outlines Community Engagement and 2024 Achievements
The Durham Region Transit Executive Committee convened on February 5, 2025, to discuss key updates and plans affecting the regional transit system. It was confirmed that Commissioner Schummer will continue as Vice-Chair of the Committee.
At the meeting, Durham Region Transit (DRT) reviewed its participation in local events, including sponsoring the Oshawa Generals game on February 9, 2025. This sponsorship aimed to promote public transit use by encouraging attendees to take transit services to the venue.
In their annual review, DRT reported handling 70,000 customer service calls and adding 60,000 new revenue service hours in 2024. The transit system also recorded 13.1 million customer trips and covered 18.9 million kilometers in revenue service.
DRT's transition to a battery-electric fleet was highlighted as significant progress in sustainable transit. Additionally, the introduction of an Outreach Worker program was noted as part of efforts to improve community interaction and service access.
The committee also discussed the Accessibility Forum, an event aimed at enhancing transit accessibility, and gathered feedback from the Uxbridge community to inform future transit plans for the area.
