Durham Region Transit Committee Discusses Service Updates

The Durham Region Transit Executive Committee convened on December 4, 2024, to address several key issues concerning transit services.

  • On Demand Service: The committee noted that the On Demand service is currently operating at 240% over capacity. Plans to address these capacity challenges will be included in the 2025 budget, with a detailed strategy expected early next year. Public forums will be held to engage residents in the planning process.

  • Fare-Free New Year’s Eve Service: Durham Region Transit will offer fare-free transit from 7 p.m. on December 31, 2024, until 4 a.m. on January 1, 2025, across all services.

  • Service Schedule Adjustments: Minor schedule changes were implemented on December 2, 2024, to accommodate seasonal demand. Specific service levels for the holiday period include:

    • December 23: Regular service

    • December 24: Weekend service

    • December 25: Special service with 30-minute frequency on routes N1 and N2, and 60-minute frequency on routes 902 and 916

    • December 26: Special service for Boxing Day

    • December 27-28: Regular service

    • December 29-30: Weekend service

    • December 31: Regular service

    • January 1: Regular service

    • January 2: Weekend service

  • Upcoming Changes: Further minor schedule and route adjustments are planned for January 6, 2025, to improve service reliability. Details will be available on the Durham Region Transit website.
