Durham Region Seeks Input on Weather Preparedness

Durham Region is seeking feedback from residents on how to enhance its Durham Greener Homes program to better prepare for severe weather events. The program aims to mitigate impacts such as basement flooding, wind damage, and heat stress. Residents who own or rent homes are encouraged to participate in the Durham Greener Homes Weather-Ready survey, which is part of a broader engagement strategy involving local municipalities, community groups, and industry.

The survey is available online from October 21 to November 29, 2024, at Durham Greener Homes | Your Durham. The initiative is part of Durham Region's efforts to support residents in preparing for severe weather conditions like heavy rain, flooding, heat waves, and high winds. More information on the region's climate readiness can be found at Durham.ca/climate-ready.

Since the program's launch in April 2022, over 1600 residents have participated, receiving personalized advice from energy coaches, financial incentives, and tools to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The program is delivered by Windfall Ecology Centre, and further details are available at DurhamGreenerHomes.ca.
