Durham Region Resumes Annual Compost Giveaway for Residents
The Regional Municipality of Durham, in cooperation with local municipalities, is facilitating a series of compost giveaway events for residents. These events are scheduled to take place at various locations across the region as part of the Leaf and Yard Waste initiative, from April 26 to May 31.
Residents are encouraged to participate by bringing their own shovel and containers to collect the free compost, which is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a limit of four containers per vehicle. The events operate regardless of weather conditions, emphasizing availability rain or shine.

May 3: Lakeview Park parking lot, Kluane Avenue, Oshawa, and Clarington Operations Depot 42, 178 Darlington-Clarke Townline Road, Bowmanville

May 10: Whitby Operations Centre, 333 McKinney Drive, Whitby, and Uxbridge Arena & Recreation Centre parking lot, 291 Brock Street West, Uxbridge

May 24: Scugog Community Recreation Centre parking lot, 1655 Reach Street, Port Perry, and Foster Hewitt Memorial Community Centre parking lot, 176 Main Street, Beaverton

Residents interested in further reducing waste through the purchase or exchange of waste bins can find more information at durham.ca/NewBins. Additionally, attendees are invited to bring non-perishable food items for donation to local food banks.
