Durham Region Residents Advised on Flu and COVID-19 Vaccinations

The Durham Region Health Department has announced the availability of the annual influenza (flu) vaccine and the updated COVID-19 vaccine for area residents. The flu vaccine is designed to protect against the influenza virus, a contagious respiratory illness, while the updated COVID-19 vaccine targets circulating variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Both vaccines are available free of charge and are recommended for individuals aged six months and older. It is considered safe to receive both vaccines simultaneously. Residents who have previously been vaccinated against COVID-19 are encouraged to receive the updated vaccine if it has been six months since their last dose.

Vaccinations can be obtained at select healthcare providers and participating pharmacies throughout the Durham Region. A list of participating pharmacy locations is available at Ontario's vaccine locations website.

For parents of children aged six months to two years who do not have access to a healthcare provider, the flu vaccine can be arranged by contacting the Durham Health Connection Line at 905-668-2020 or 1-800-841-2729. Additionally, COVID-19 vaccine appointments for children aged six months to four years, who cannot be vaccinated at local pharmacies or through a healthcare provider, can be booked online at Durham Vaccine Booking.
