Durham Region Plans Rehabilitation of Island Road
The Regional Municipality of Durham is planning to rehabilitate Island Road (Regional Road 7) from Highway 7A to Gerrow Road in the Township of Scugog. The proposed work includes pavement rehabilitation, installing paved shoulders to accommodate all types of road users, installing rumble strips, and making traffic signal modifications at the intersection of Highway 7A and Island Road. Additionally, the project will involve modifying the horizontal alignment, vertical profile, and superelevation of the roadway, as well as replacing or upgrading damaged or deteriorated culverts.
The project is currently in the detailed design phase and is scheduled for construction in 2026, subject to the completion of design, permitting, and Regional Council approval of construction funding.
