Durham Region Observes National Indigenous Veterans Day

On November 8, the Durham Region recognized National Indigenous Veterans Day, which honours the service and sacrifices of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis veterans in the Canadian Armed Forces. The day acknowledges the challenges faced by Indigenous service members, including traveling long distances to enlist and experiencing racism during and after their service. Flags at the Regional Headquarters were flown at half-mast to mark the occasion. The region encourages learning about Indigenous contributions to Canada's military history and participating in reconciliation efforts.
