Durham Region Launches 'Shop in Durham Week' to Support Local Businesses

Durham Region is hosting 'Shop in Durham Week' from December 1 to 7. This initiative encourages residents to support local businesses during the holiday season. The campaign is organized by Durham Tourism in collaboration with the Durham Economic Task Force. A flag-raising ceremony at the Regional Headquarters on December 2 will mark the start of the event.

Residents are encouraged to share their shopping experiences on social media using the hashtag #ShopInDurham. The campaign aims to highlight the benefits of shopping locally, such as supporting community businesses and keeping money within the local economy.

Durham Region features 14 distinct downtown areas, each offering unique shopping experiences. The campaign promotes these areas as destinations for finding unique gifts and supporting local artisans and businesses.

John Henry, Regional Chair and CEO of Durham Region, emphasized the importance of small businesses in the community. Simon Gill, Director of Economic Development and Tourism, noted that shopping locally contributes to the economic vitality of the community.
