Durham Region Commemorates Remembrance Day

The Durham Region has announced plans to commemorate Remembrance Day, focusing on honoring military veterans and active service members. The event will include a moment of silence at 11 a.m. on November 11, as part of a national tradition to remember those who have served in times of war and peace.

John Henry, Regional Chair and CEO of the Regional Municipality of Durham, issued a statement encouraging residents to participate in the observance. Flags at Regional Headquarters will be lowered to half-mast in recognition of the sacrifices made by veterans and current military personnel.

The statement emphasized the importance of remembering the cost of war and the value of peace, urging the community to reflect on the contributions of those who have defended the country's freedoms and values.

Residents are invited to participate in local ceremonies or observe the moment of silence from their homes. The region's efforts aim to ensure that the sacrifices of veterans are not forgotten and to promote the well-being of service members, both past and present.
