Durham Region Begins Sewer System Fog Testing in Madawaska Area

The Regional Municipality of Durham, in partnership with Civica Infrastructure, is conducting an inflow and infiltration (I/I) reduction study within the Madawaska SPS catchment area. This study aims to identify and address sources where rainwater enters the sanitary sewer system.

Fog testing is being employed as part of this initiative. This technique involves introducing a harmless fog into the sewer lines to locate points where rainwater may be infiltrating. Community members in the area could observe fog dissipating from manholes or roof vents, which is consistent with the testing procedure.

The municipality informs residents that such tests are being carried out to assess and enhance the efficiency of the sewer system. Minimal disruptions are expected during the process, and there is no cause for concern. Such measures are a routine part of efforts to manage local water infrastructure effectively, according to officials from the Regional Municipality of Durham.
