Durham Region Allocates Funds for Water Infrastructure Improvements
The Durham Region has announced funding for water infrastructure improvements. The Province of Ontario will contribute $34.9 million, while the Region will allocate $13 million for the Oshawa Water Supply Plant rehabilitation project. This project aims to support the development of 182,000 new homes across Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, and Courtice. The rehabilitation will ensure a reliable municipal drinking water supply and promote regional growth.
John Henry, Regional Chair and CEO of Durham Region, stated that the partnership on major capital infrastructure projects is essential for unlocking more housing in the area. Dave Barton, Mayor of Uxbridge and Chair of the Works Committee, emphasized that the project will create capacity for expansion at other water treatment plants.
The project is part of a broader initiative to enhance water infrastructure and support housing development in the region.
