Durham Region Achieves Intelligent Community Certification

Durham Region has been recognized as a fully certified intelligent community by the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF). This certification is awarded to communities that demonstrate high-quality connectivity, effective workforce development, a business innovation ecosystem, and meaningful community engagement. The designation will remain in place until October 2027.

The recognition positions Durham Region alongside Winnipeg, Manitoba, as one of the two Canadian communities to receive this certification. The certification is part of the ICF's Community Accelerator Strategy, which aims to validate communities that are prepared for investment and poised for economic, social, and cultural success.

Local leaders have expressed their support for the certification. John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Durham Region, stated that the credential affirms the collective work of local municipalities, educational institutions, and business organizations in positioning Durham for continued success. Simon Gill, Director of Economic Development and Tourism, highlighted the region's readiness for global investment, citing thriving sectors such as technology, agriculture, and energy.
