Durham College Students Receive Schulich Scholarships for Skilled Trades
Ten students from Durham College have been awarded scholarships from the Schulich Builders Scholarships for the Skilled Trades. These scholarships, provided by The Schulich Foundation, aim to address the shortage of skilled trades workers in Ontario. Five students received $20,000 for one-year programs, while another five received $40,000 for two-year programs. The scholarships cover various costs including tuition, books, and transportation.
Kaeli Caguicla, a recipient of the $40,000 scholarship, is enrolled in the Mechanical Technician – Elevating Devices program. She mentioned that the scholarship has significantly alleviated her financial burden, allowing her to focus on her studies. Josh Peacocke, another scholarship recipient, is pursuing Power Engineering Techniques and expressed that the scholarship has motivated him to excel in his studies.
Rebecca Milburn, Principal and Executive Dean at the Whitby campus, highlighted the importance of skilled trades in the economy and expressed gratitude to The Schulich Foundation for their support. The next round of scholarships will be available for applications in 2025.
