DRPS Reports Increase in Impaired Driving Charges During 2024 Festive RIDE

The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) has completed its 2024 Festive RIDE program, during which more than 16,000 vehicles were stopped. According to DRPS, 105 drivers were charged with impaired driving offences, representing a nearly 20% increase from the previous year.

The program also involved 1,145 roadside breath tests and resulted in 102 three-day suspensions. Additionally, 17 drug-related offences were recorded. These statistics reflect the efforts to maintain road safety during the festive period.

DRPS highlighted the role of community reports in identifying impaired drivers, encouraging residents to report suspected cases by calling 911.
