DRPS Hosts Polar Plunge Raising Over $40,000 for Special Olympics
The DRPS hosted a 'Freezin for a Reason' Polar Plunge on March 22, 2025, in Oshawa, Ontario. Approximately 150 participants joined the event to support Special Olympics Ontario, helping to raise over $40,000. This figure exceeds the previous year's fundraising efforts by more than $10,000.
The plunge took place at the Tribute Communities Centre, featuring a temporary pool for the occasion. This year's plunge was noted for significant participation from members of the Durham Regional Police Service's command team, including Police Chief Peter Moreira. The funds will continue to be collected until the end of March to benefit Special Olympics Ontario, emphasizing local community support for athletic opportunities tailored to individuals with intellectual disabilities.
