DFO Conducts Second Roadside Inspection Blitz to Prevent Zebra Mussel Spread

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) conducted a second roadside inspection blitz from August 23 to 25, 2024, along the Trans-Canada Highway at the Manitoba and Ontario border. This effort aimed to prevent the spread of Zebra Mussels, an aquatic invasive species. During the inspection, 451 vehicles transporting watercraft were stopped. Of these, 153 vehicles were found to be non-compliant with the clean, drain, dry requirements, while 225 vehicles were compliant. No Zebra Mussels were visible on any of the inspected watercraft. Non-compliant vehicles had their watercraft and equipment decontaminated and received instructions on how to meet the clean, drain, dry requirements.
