Darlington Unit 1 Refurbishment Completed Ahead of Schedule

The refurbishment of Unit 1 at the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station has been completed five months ahead of schedule. This project is part of Ontario's efforts to meet increasing energy demands. The refurbishment provides 875 megawatts of power, sufficient to supply approximately 875,000 homes for over 30 years.

The Darlington Refurbishment Project is one of Canada's largest energy projects, involving the replacement of major reactor components and upgrades to turbine generator equipment. According to the Conference Board of Canada, the $12.8 billion project is expected to generate $90 billion in economic benefits and create 14,200 jobs annually over the next 30 years.

Ontario's Independent Electricity System Operator forecasts a 75% increase in electricity demand by 2050. The continued operation of the Darlington station is intended to help meet this demand while reducing emissions.
