The Durham Agricultural Advisory Committee (DAAC) held its 22nd annual farm tour at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre in Port Perry. The event, themed 'Forward Thinking Agriculture in Durham Region,' addressed topics such as experimental farming, modern agricultural challenges, and the diversification of farm operations.
Brian Bridgeman, Commissioner of Planning and Economic Development, emphasized the importance of such events for connecting with the agriculture sector and sharing solutions. Approximately 140 participants attended, including government representatives, students, post-secondary partners, public agencies, and local farm equipment dealers.
Zac Cohoon, Chair of DAAC, highlighted the range of topics discussed, including the importance of efficient agricultural transportation. DAAC, a volunteer advisory committee, has showcased over 40 farms and agricultural facilities to more than 1,200 participants since its inaugural tour in 2003.
