Current Status of Port Darlington Shoreline Protection

During the General Government Committee meeting on January 27, 2020, Pauline Witzke from the Port Darlington Community Association addressed the ongoing shoreline erosion issues at Port Darlington. She highlighted that the water levels in Lake Ontario are currently higher than they were in January 2019. Witzke reminded the Committee of a resolution passed in July 2019 to initiate urgent negotiations with Votorantim, other government agencies, and both Provincial and Federal Governments to explore funding options for implementing the Baird Report Option 3 or other effective engineering solutions to address erosion at Cedar Crest Beach Road. Witzke expressed concern that no progress has been communicated to residents regarding these negotiations, stating that residents are facing another year without a physical barrier to protect against wave energy. She noted that this marks the fourth spring since the issue was first raised, with one family having to relocate due to foundation damage from erosion. Witzke requested assistance from the Committee to address these concerns.
