Cricket Ground Request in Courtice

Yasir Majid and Dr. Naveed Tariq presented a request for a cricket ground in Courtice during the General Government Committee meeting on September 27, 2021. Mr. Majid provided an overview of tapeball cricket, detailing the necessary size and pitch requirements for a cricket ground. He noted that Durham currently lacks dedicated cricket facilities. Mr. Majid emphasized the need for a cricket ground, stating that local players currently utilize school yards and parking lots. He argued that a dedicated facility would create a more organized environment for play, enable local cricket events, and minimize disturbances to nearby residents. Following their presentation, the committee members asked questions. The committee subsequently passed a resolution to refer the request to staff for further investigation into options for cricket grounds in Clarington and to consult with community partners, including school boards.
