CRA Announces Public Consultation on Service Improvements

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has announced a public consultation period from September 25 to December 2, 2024. The consultation aims to gather feedback from individuals, non-professional representatives, and tax intermediaries regarding their experiences with CRA services. Feedback can be provided through an online questionnaire or during in-person and virtual consultation sessions by invitation.

The CRA has stated that an independent third party will manage the recruitment of participants and the reporting process to ensure privacy and capture a wide range of perspectives. The goal of these consultations is to understand the challenges faced by taxpayers and identify areas where CRA services do not meet expectations.

Recent improvements cited by the CRA include the introduction of a digital application for the Disability Tax Credit, enhancements to sign-in services, the implementation of an online learning tool about taxes, increased contact center hours, and the expansion of the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP). Despite these advancements, the CRA acknowledges that further work is needed to address ongoing challenges.
