Competition Bureau Investigates Leon's and The Brick's Marketing Practices
The Competition Bureau of Canada has obtained a court order to further its investigation into the marketing practices of Leon’s Furniture Limited and its subsidiary, The Brick Warehouse LP. This order, issued by the Federal Court, mandates the companies to provide records and written information pertinent to the investigation.
The investigation focuses on several marketing practices, including:
- Claims of urgency regarding the end dates of sales or promotions, which may be misleading.
- Potential inflation of regular prices when making savings claims.
- Sale claims that do not specify the discount amount, with prices displayed in a distinct font color, possibly misleading consumers about the nature of the sale.
The Bureau is assessing whether these practices contravene the deceptive marketing provisions of the Competition Act. As of now, no conclusion of wrongdoing has been reached.
