Community Events Boost Parkland Appreciation in Clarington

In June, over 1,000 residents participated in the #HeartYourParksClarington campaign, which included sharing photos and stories, attending community events, and coloring flags that represented various activities enjoyed in local parks. The flags, depicting activities such as swimming, basketball, and biking, were collected and are now displayed at Clarington recreation centers throughout the municipality. Mayor Adrian Foster emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, "Now more than ever, it’s important that we send a clear message about the value of our parkland – and our residents did just that with #HeartYourParksClarington." The campaign aims to boost appreciation for local parks and encourage community engagement in outdoor spaces, despite recent legislative challenges affecting parkland dedication for new neighborhoods. The initiative aligns with Clarington's commitment to responsible growth as outlined in the 2024-27 Strategic Plan.
