Clarington's Resolution Against Provincial Health Care Restructuring

On November 4, 2019, the General Government Committee of Clarington endorsed a resolution concerning local health care services. The resolution was prompted by concerns regarding the Ontario government's proposed mergers and closures of health care facilities. It highlighted that public health care consistently ranks as a top priority in public opinion polls and emphasized the importance of public health services tailored to community needs. The resolution pointed out that previous hospital amalgamations have resulted in significant costs without delivering promised savings, detracting from frontline care. It also stated that there is no evidence supporting the proposed closure of local Public Health Units and ambulance services. The committee called on the Ontario government to halt these closures and cuts to local health care services, which include Public Health Units, ambulance services, hospitals, and long-term care homes. The resolution was carried unanimously by the committee members present.
