Clarington Youth Council Presents on Youth Engagement Initiatives

On February 16, 2021, Tenzin Shomar and Hannah Oegema from the Clarington Youth Council presented to the General Government Committee regarding youth engagement in Clarington. Oegema provided an overview of the youth population in Clarington, explaining that the Youth Council serves to bridge the gap between youth and the municipal government, acts as a shadow to the Clarington Municipal Council, and promotes civic engagement among young people. Shomar discussed the composition of the Youth Council, noting that Wards 3 and 4 currently lack representation. He also outlined the Youth Strategic Plan, which aims to establish a framework highlighting youth priorities. The presentation concluded with a question-and-answer session with committee members. The committee moved to refer the delegation to the Community Services to explore potential assistance for the Youth Council.
