Clarington to Lower Speed Limits in School Zones as Part of Strategic Plan

The Municipality of Clarington is implementing a speed limit reduction in school zones from 50 kilometres per hour to 30 kilometres per hour. This initiative is part of Clarington's 2024-27 Strategic Plan, which aims to address traffic-related safety issues in school zones based on feedback from residents. Additionally, the municipality is developing a Traffic Calming Plan to enhance road safety throughout Clarington. New speed limit signs are expected to be installed over the summer months, in time for the start of the 2024-25 school year. Mayor Adrian Foster stated that the council is committed to using available tools to improve safety for children and provide peace of mind for parents. The affected schools include various public elementary schools located on municipality roads.
