Clarington Supports MFOA's Request for Extension on Asset Management Deadlines

The Municipality of Clarington has resolved to support the Municipal Finance Officers Association's (MFOA) letter to the Ministry of Infrastructure, requesting a one-year extension of deadlines under O. Reg. 588/17: Asset Management Planning for Municipal Infrastructure. This decision was made during the General Government Committee meeting on November 9, 2020. The extension is sought due to the significant financial and operational impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on Ontario municipalities, which have diverted resources to address immediate pandemic needs. The current deadlines require municipalities to prepare asset management plans for core infrastructure by July 1, 2021, and for all other municipal infrastructure by July 1, 2023. The resolution aims to allow municipalities to focus on pandemic-related challenges and engage in asset management planning when capacity issues are resolved.
