Clarington Seeks Government Action on Homelessness Crisis

The Municipality of Clarington has urged the provincial and federal governments to address the homelessness crisis affecting Ontario. This call to action was made in support of the Ontario Big City Mayors' Solve the Crisis Campaign. The Clarington Council emphasized the need for a dedicated provincial minister and ministry to handle housing needs and provide mental health and addiction support. They also advocated for the formation of a task force to develop a comprehensive action plan, involving various sectors and the federal government. The Council highlighted the necessity for sustainable funding to assist municipalities in supporting individuals with mental health and addiction issues, including those who are unsheltered. Clarington's representatives have expressed that municipalities have reached their capacity to manage the crisis independently and require intervention from higher levels of government.
