Clarington Reviews Open Air Burn By-law for Urban and Rural Needs

The General Government Committee of Clarington discussed potential revisions to the Open Air Burn By-law during their meeting on October 7, 2024. The current by-law, known as By-law 2012-062, is under review with proposals to repeal and replace it with a new version that considers the needs of both urban and rural residents.

Councillor Elhajjeh and Councillor Rang moved to refer the matter back to staff for further review. The staff is tasked with incorporating scenarios that would allow both urban and rural residents to conduct open-air burns on their properties. This includes reviewing the size of permissible fire pits, adherence to fire bans, and necessary permitting processes.
