The Municipality of Clarington has announced that speed limits in school zones have been reduced from 50 kilometres per hour to 30 kilometres per hour. This change is aimed at improving safety for students as the new school year begins. The new speed limits apply to most schools located on municipal roads. However, schools situated on Regional or Provincially-owned roads are not included in this change. A full list of affected school zones can be found on the Clarington website.

Mayor Adrian Foster emphasized the importance of adhering to the new speed limits, urging motorists and pedestrians to be mindful of their surroundings in school zones. This initiative is part of Clarington's 2024-27 Strategic Plan, which includes a commitment to road safety and the development of a Traffic Calming Plan to enhance safety throughout the municipality.
