Clarington Observes National Day of Remembrance for Violence Against Women

Clarington, Ontario marked the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. Mayor Adrian Foster issued a statement highlighting the significance of the day, which commemorates the 14 women killed at Polytechnique Montreal on December 6, 1989. The statement also remembered Laurie Crew and Katrina Zwolinksi, who were victims of intimate partner violence in Courtice.

The mayor emphasized the ongoing threat of gender-based violence faced by women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals both globally and locally. Clarington's commitment to community safety and creating an inclusive environment was reiterated.

The day serves as a reminder of the need to oppose misogyny and hate, and to support initiatives aimed at enhancing safety and well-being in the community.
