Clarington Moves Towards Becoming a Bicycle-Friendly Community

On June 6, 2022, during a General Government Committee meeting, a resolution was passed directing the Director of Public Works to report back on the feasibility of making Clarington a bicycle-friendly community. The resolution, moved by Councillor Jones and seconded by Councillor Hooper, aims to explore potential changes that could enhance cycling infrastructure and promote cycling as a viable mode of transportation within the municipality. The report is scheduled for discussion at the Joint General Government and Planning and Development Committees meeting on September 12, 2022. This initiative is expected to consider various improvements, including the development of dedicated bike lanes, enhanced signage, and connectivity to existing trails. The anticipated benefits of becoming a bicycle-friendly community include increased safety for cyclists, reduced traffic congestion, and improved public health outcomes through increased physical activity.
