Clarington Lowers Speed Limits in School Zones to 30 km/h

The Municipality of Clarington has announced a reduction in speed limits in school zones from 50 kilometres per hour to 30 kilometres per hour. This decision is aimed at enhancing road safety for students as they return to school in the fall. Mayor Adrian Foster stated, "Parents had valid concerns about student safety and speeding in school zones, and Council listened. We’re lowering speed limits at Clarington schools along local roads. We’re using the tools we have available to do our utmost to keep our kids safer and give parents some peace of mind." New speed limit signs will be installed over the summer months, with the changes expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2024-25 school year. The schools affected by this change include S.T. Worden, Courtice North, Dr. Emily Stowe, St. Mother Teresa, Dr. G. J. MacGillivray, Lydia Trull, Good Shepherd, Enniskillen, Hampton Junior, Orono, Newcastle, St. Francis of Assisi, and Charles Bowman, among others.
