Clarington Fire Department Highlights Smoke Alarm Safety
During Fire Prevention Week, which takes place from October 6 to 12, 2024, Clarington Fire and Emergency Services is emphasizing the importance of functional smoke alarms in homes. The department outlines several guidelines to ensure safety:
- Ontario law requires a working smoke alarm on every storey of a home and outside all sleeping areas. Additional alarms in each bedroom are recommended for enhanced safety.
- Smoke alarms should be suitable for all family members, including those with sensory or physical disabilities.
- It is advised to test smoke alarms monthly using the test button.
- Smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years.
