Clarington Endorses Resolution in Response to Changes in Student Program Policies

The Municipality of Clarington has officially endorsed a resolution previously passed by the Town of Ajax that addresses recent changes made by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) affecting international student programs. These changes, which include the reduction of international student study permits and a restriction on post-graduation work permits to fields recognized for national labor shortages, have significant implications for local institutions including Durham College.

Durham College has identified 34 programs directly impacted by these IRCC changes. The college has advocated for these programs to be included on the IRCC's list of recognized fields of study, in a bid to protect its financial stability and contribution to the local economy

The changes have prompted discussions among municipal stakeholders regarding the far-reaching economic impacts on the region, urging governmental collaboration to mitigate potential challenges.
