Clarington Endorses Fee Increases for Tourism-Oriented Destination Signage

The Municipality of Clarington has endorsed a resolution regarding fee increases for tourism-oriented destination signage. This decision was made during the General Government Committee meeting on March 9, 2020. The resolution, moved by Councillor Neal and seconded by Councillor Anderson, addresses the doubling of fees announced by Canadian TODS Limited, which will take effect in 2020. The resolution highlights that local tourism stakeholders and businesses rely on this signage to attract customers. It expresses concern that the fee increase will result in significant financial hardship for these business owners. The Haliburton County Tourism Committee and Haliburton County Council have requested that the Ministers of Tourism, Culture and Sport, and Transportation reconsider or phase in the fee increase to allow businesses adequate time to adjust. Clarington is among the municipalities supporting this resolution and will communicate this support to the relevant ministers and local MPPs.
